Cape Breton Island, NS – For the first time, ELEVATE Magazine is being distributed through select copies of the Cape Breton Post in the Saturday, July 11 edition.
ELEVATE magazine is Cape Breton’s business publication, created by the Cape Breton Partnership in collaboration with SaltWire Network. A quarterly print publication, ELEVATE highlights business success stories and exciting updates from around the Island.
The most recent edition’s theme is Exporting to the World, and was scheduled to be released in April 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, distribution was delayed until now.
“ELEVATE magazine is about celebrating the many success stories happening within our business community, something I think we could all use more of right now,” says Carla Arsenault, Cape Breton Partnership President & CEO. “Cape Breton – Unama’ki is home to world-class companies that offer diverse products and services, so the opportunity for export growth is immense. Although the magazine’s content was prepared prior to the pandemic, exporting is more relevant than ever.”
The magazine was launched in June 2015, distributed mainly to Cape Breton – Unama’ki’s business community. This is the first time ELEVATE has been distributed through select copies of the Cape Breton Post in an effort to expand readership throughout the Island.

In an effort to further assist Cape Breton companies adjusting to the impacts of COVID-19, the Cape Breton Partnership has expanded its business support services by introducing a new Virtual Adviser Program.
Powered by On-Demand Talent Platform BoomersPlus, this free program will match qualified Cape Breton companies with a seasoned Virtual Adviser to help their business manage and recover from COVID-19. Virtual Advisers are experienced professionals from across Canada representing a full range of disciplines, industries and environments, willing to share their lessons learned.
“We need to support our local businesses now more than ever and being able to connect them to the talent and experience of Business Advisers from across the country is really exciting,” says Carla Arsenault, Cape Breton Partnership President & CEO. “Our hope that these connections will result in effective, tangible solutions to help our businesses move forward successfully.”
Businesses can apply on the Cape Breton Partnership website at https://capebretonpartnership.com/initiatives/virtual-adviser-program/. Applications will be reviewed by Cape Breton Partnership staff. If accepted, businesses will be matched with a Virtual Adviser from a network of thousands of professionals based on the business need or challenge. On a mutually agreed schedule, the businesses will meet virtually with their business adviser to discuss the challenges and find potential solutions.
“The Virtual Adviser Program is a natural evolution of our mandate – to help organizations and communities leverage the wisdom and experience of seasoned professionals. We are excited to partner with the Nova Scotia RENS to help small businesses struggling through the challenging economic environment created by the COVID-19 crisis,” said Kevin MacIntyre, VP, Marketing, BoomersPlus.
Participants will have access to four to six calls over a two to three month period, with the potential for an extension. To participate, businesses must be located on Cape Breton Island and able to complete four to six phone calls with an adviser along with any follow-up work necessary for the duration of the program.

Cape Breton Island, NS – The Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health (CBSRH) has opened applications for a Navigator to support the recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals in the Strait-Richmond area of Cape Breton Island.
The new Healthcare Professional Recruitment & Retention Navigator will play a key role in developing and delivering initiatives falling under the five key strategic directions of the CBSRH: Advocacy, Readiness, Recruitment, Retention, and Emergency Preparedness.
“Our group has been very active over the last 6 months, arranging visits from a number of physicians from outside the area, embarking on a branding exercise, and conducting a fact-finding survey process to identify the specific medical professional needs of our communities,” says Dr. Trevor Boudreau, Co-Chair of Cape Breton South Recruiting for Health. “These efforts have never been as important as they are now with the current pandemic and its impact locally as well as globally.”
Funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, the position will further the efforts of the CBSRH, a joint partnership of the Municipality of the County of Richmond and the Town of Port Hawkesbury with support from the Strait Richmond Hospital, Dr. Kingston Memorial Community Health Center, St. Anne Community and Nursing Care Center, Strait Area Chamber of Commerce, the Cape Breton Partnership, and other partners. The group was established in January 2020 as a regional approach focused on building on the strengths of local communities and providing a more collaborative environment to attract physicians and other healthcare professionals.
