Hey students—ready to jump-start your career in skilled trades?

The Connector Program is here to help you take the next big step toward your future. We focus on skilled trades apprenticeships—hands-on, earn-while-you-learn career paths that can lead to exciting and meaningful opportunities right out of high school.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Step One: Get to Know You
We start by meeting with you to learn about what makes you tick—your interests, skills, and career goals. Whether you’re interested in mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, or another trade, we’ll help you find the path that fits you best.
  2. Step Two: Find Your Match
Next, we take the reins! Based on what you share with us, we connect you with local businesses in the skilled trades. We look for companies that are actively hiring apprentices— places that are looking for talented and ambitious young people like you!
  3. Step Three: Make the Connection
Once we’ve found a good match, we introduce you to the employer. Together, you’ll explore the apprenticeship opportunity and see if it’s the right fit. If it is, you’re on your way to launching your career in skilled trades!

Think of the Connector Program as your personal link to employers in the trades— opening doors and creating opportunities for you to shine. If you’re curious about skilled trades but not sure where to start, that’s okay—that’s what we’re here for.

We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.

The Connector Program is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment and welcoming Island. We believe that skills, talent, and potential come from every corner of our community, regardless of race, gender, ability, or background. We welcome and support applicants from all walks of life and are dedicated to providing equal opportunities for everyone. No matter who you are or where you come from, we believe you have the ability to succeed in the skilled trades, and we’re here to help you get there.

Match

The Connector Program matches pre-qualified international and local work-ready individuals (Connectees) with employers, community members, and business leaders, who are involved in the program as Connectors. The Connectee and Connector are matched based on industry experience, professional backgrounds, or the Connectee’s expressed interest in a specific sector.

Connect

Once the program coordinator has made the match, the Connector and the Connectee meet face-to-face to discuss different topics such as:

  • Industry backgrounds
  • Skills and areas of expertise
  • Industry related news
  • Current market demands
  • Job opportunities to explore in Cape Breton

Refer

Connectors are asked to refer the Connectee to a minimum of three people in their network, and then each of those connections are asked to then refer three more people. As a result, the Connectee’s professional network grows exponentially and the opportunity for success increases dramatically. Referrals may be potential employers, contacts within their industry, or other people who will benefit from meeting with a skilled professional.
