CAPE BRETON PARTNERSHIP LAUNCHES VICTORIA COUNTY HOUSING SURVEYNovember 14, 2019

(Cape Breton, NS) – The Cape Breton Partnership and the Municipality of the County of Victoria have partnered to launch a survey to collect data on the area’s housing and rental market.

The survey, focusing on both current residents and people who may be interested in moving to Victoria County, asks a number of questions about housing style preferences, necessary senior housing specifications, demographic information, communities to focus on, and more. The Cape Breton Partnership and the Municipality of the County of Victoria believe the results will be valuable for both public and private housing projects.

“As the Island’s private sector-led economic development organization, the Cape Breton Partnership recognizes that housing challenges are barriers to both workforce attraction and population growth,” says Carla Arsenault, President & CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership. “This survey is simply a first step in honing in on exactly what housing needs are desired or expected in the area, which will lead to informed-decision making for long term planning.”

The Cape Breton Partnership has led past initiatives in Victoria County to address known housing availability issues, such as its billeting program that helps to connect those interested in short to long-term rentals with those in the county who have rooms and/or homes in the area available for rent. The current survey will focus on data that will inform long-term solutions to these challenges.

“Victoria County is bursting with natural beauty, current and newly established businesses, and an unmatched quality of life,” says Victoria County Warden Bruce Morrison. “We know there are many who want to work and live here, and we know a major obstacle to making that a reality is our existing housing challenges. What we need to know is what sort of housing solutions will turn that trend around, and this survey is a tool that will help us acquire that knowledge.”

The survey is available now at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2019-VCHousingSurvey, and will remain open until December 13, 2019. Paper copies will also be available to residents at the Victoria County Municipal Offices at 495 Chebucto Street, Baddeck, NS.
