Former prime minister Jean Chrétien will be the guest speaker at the Think Export NOW conference at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre on Tuesday.

Billy He is attending school in Cape Breton but he is also interested in making the island his home.
“We see a lot of options here for business in Cape Breton,” he said. “My plan is to open a restaurant after I graduate. I want to do it in Cape Breton since I’ve been living here for four years. Maybe like a Chinese buffet because I don’t see a lot of buffet places around here.”
The Cape Breton University business student and his girlfriend Jean Kong attended Local Wise, a Glace Bay Business Day at the Cape Breton Miners’ Museum on Tuesday.

(Sydney, NS) – The Cape Breton Partnership’s Safety First Cape Breton Network, in collaboration with the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education and the Workers’ Compensation Board of Nova Scotia, are pleased to announce the second annual launch of the Safety First in Cape Breton Awards. These Awards are a unique opportunity to recognize safety champions in Cape Breton and will be handed out at the sixth annual Safety First in Cape Breton Symposium on May 15, 2018 at Cape Breton University.
The Safety First in Cape Breton Awards honour the employers and employees who are committed to making a recognized effort to ensure safe work practices are used at all levels to avoid accidents and prevent workplace injuries. The Safety Network is looking for nominations from the community to recognize those individuals and businesses who are committed to the advancement of workplace health and safety by promoting total wellbeing, including physical, psychosocial, and mental health of their family, friends, colleagues, and community members.
The five award categories include Young Advocate Award, Innovation Expert Award, Small Business Trailblazer Award, Engagement Ally Award, and the Safety Culture Champion.
“The Safety First in Cape Breton Network brings together a variety of like-minded individuals who are all working towards making Cape Breton the safest place to do business in Nova Scotia,” said Keith MacDonald, President and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership. “The Partnership is proud to continue to recognizing individuals and organizations who are committed to making a recognized effort to ensuring safe work practices and healthy well-being on the job. Each award category identifies qualities that recognize a range of occupational health and safety elements including employee training, leadership, innovative training initiatives, and individual engagement.”
