SYDNEY, N.S. — A two-year pilot program aimed at encouraging small and medium-sized businesses to enter the export market will see 11 town hall-style events held on the topic across Cape Breton this fall.

The Cape Breton Partnership initiative received $135,326 in federal government funding in June to identify and assist businesses across the island interested in exporting their products or services outside the province.

The sessions for the Think Export N.O.W. (Navigating Opportunities Worldwide) Export Growth Service beginning Sept. 18 in Ingonish will give businesspeople a chance to “explore the opportunities of exporting,” that they may not have considered, said Cape Breton Partnership president and CEO Carla Arsenault.

Cape Breton Island, NS – An initiative of the Cape Breton Partnership will be visiting communities across the Island in September and October to speak with businesses about exporting. Round table discussions will be targeted toward businesses looking to begin exporting as well as experienced exporters who want to enter new markets, identifying and discussing what businesses need for support and readiness during the Export Growth Service Town Hall sessions.

The Think Export N.O.W. (Navigating Opportunities Worldwide) – Export Growth Service is a two-year pilot program managed by the Cape Breton Partnership with the goal of having more small and medium sized businesses begin exporting their products and services outside of the province. This program was developed through cooperation with the private sector, all levels of government, educational institutions, and First Nations. The development team guiding the project consists of five agencies including Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, Nova Scotia Business Inc., the Business Development Bank of Canada, Nova Scotia Community College, and the Cape Breton Partnership.

“The Export Growth Service Town Halls will give businesses the opportunity to come together to discuss and explore the opportunities of exporting,” said Carla Arsenault, President and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership. “These town halls will ensure companies will become informed about export opportunities, become knowledgeable of export or web delivered training, and become aware of financial supports capable of assisting in exporting.”

The Town Hall sessions will be held at various locations across the Island throughout September and early October. For the full list of dates, times, and locations, visit https://capebretonpartnership.com/events/export-growth-townhalls/.

A Cape Breton group dedicated to enhancing the integration of immigrants is looking for ways to improve the experiences of newcomers to the island.

The Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership has launched two surveys that it hopes will provide more insight into the settlement experiences of newcomers and reveal how the community perceives the immigrants through its concerns and attitudes.

“These surveys are going to serve as important tools to guide the Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership’s activities and strategies as we move forward,” said Carla Arsenault, president and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership, which launched the immigration initiative.

(Cape Breton Island, NS) – The Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership (CBLIP) has launched two surveys: one for newcomers born outside of Canada now living in Cape Breton and another for the community at large. The CBLIP is interested in learning more about the settlement experience of newcomers and about community priorities, concerns, and attitudes towards immigration in Cape Breton.

“These surveys are going to serve as important tools to guide the CBLIP’s activities and strategies as we move forward,” says Carla Arsenault, President and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership. “Whether you’re a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, international student, refugee or a temporary resident, we want to hear about your experiences and outlooks as they relate to immigration and newcomers in Cape Breton.”

The Local Immigration Partnership, an initiative of the Cape Breton Partnership, has wrapped up two series of sessions held across Cape Breton earlier in 2018. The first series included presenting the CBLIP and its mandate alongside other newcomer-focused programs to the Island’s municipal governments and the local business community. The CBLIP then embarked across the Island again, this time holding community engagement sessions in thirteen communities to hear from residents and employers on how to make Cape Breton more welcoming to newcomers.

The newcomer survey can be accessed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CBLIPImmigrantSurvey, and the community survey can be accessed online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CBLIPCommunitySurvey. All data collected will be kept confidential and will be grouped to protect the participants’ anonymity.

For more information about this survey or the Cape Breton Local Immigration Partnership, or to complete the survey by phone, please contact Kathleen MacLeod, CBLIP Program Coordinator, at kathleen@capebretonpartnership.com or 902-202-6887.
