The Cape Breton Partnership established the Green Energy Engagement Program to focus on meaningful engagement, creating ongoing dialogue and equitable knowledge exchange that helps communities build capacity and make informed decisions about future green energy projects, including wind energy and green fuels.
The offshore wind Call for Information NS25-1R is open for 90 days, from October 16, 2025, to January 13, 2026.
As part of the offshore wind Call for Information NS25-1R, the CNSOER welcomes feedback on governments’ Strategic Direction letter and other items noted in the online form. The emergence of a global marine renewable energy industry presents new opportunities for businesses in Unama’ki – Cape Breton.
Marine renewable energy projects require an extensive team of services and suppliers to support the lifecycle of a project. A range of skills, supplies, and services are needed including marine scientists and engineers, mechanical and electrical technicians, vessels, sensory instruments, divers, steel fabrication, manufacturing and supporting expertise such as insurance, legal, transportation, and financial services.
The database was designed as a tool to support industry growth by connecting Canada’s expertise with project development needs locally, nationally, and internationally.
The key objectives of the Green Energy Engagement Program are centered around ongoing dialogue with communities across Unama’ki – Cape Breton and building organizational capacity within the Partnership. The key objectives are as follows:
Provide people in Unama’ki – Cape Breton with information related to green energy through different forms of media, to keep communities informed and involved in any future development tied to green energy.
Focus on relationship development with First Nations Communities, ocean users, local businesses, academic leaders, environmental groups, nonprofits, tourism operators, and individual community members to account for all voices in Unama’ki – Cape Breton when considering the potential benefits and impacts of future offshore wind and clean fuels production.
Establish a Community Of Practice (COP) with organizations conducting education and engagement throughout Unama’ki – Cape Breton and develop strategic and coordinated engagement strategies that reach all communities across the Island.
Build capacity within the Cape Breton Partnership to undertake engagement efforts to work toward social acceptance and support for future development.
