Recognizing the success of Unama’ki Economic Benefits Office (UEBO), in mid 2013, the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Chiefs adopted a resolution to have the UEBO expand its mandate to serve all 13 First Nation communities in Nova Scotia.

To reflect this change, UEBO is changing its name to the “Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Economic Benefits Office” (MEBO).

The “Nova Scotia Aboriginal Employment Partnership” (NSAEP) is Training project under the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq Economic Benefits Office. The focus of this training program is to provide training and work experience in the shipbuilding industry, the spin-off economy, and other growth sectors in Nova Scotia.

The Federal Government (Service Canada) in January 2013 provided $6 million in funding under its Skills Partnership Fund, for this provincial training initiative.

This province wide training program is the result of the MEBO establishing a partnership with the Mi’kmaq Native Friendship Centre in Halifax and the Mi’kmaq Employment-Training Secretariat (METS) to deliver this training for all 13 First Nation communities in Nova Scotia.
